Beschrijving

An incident, such as a fire in a server room or a colleague falling, can easily happen in your company. As an in-house emergency response officer (ERO), you can make a difference in these kinds of incidents. It is therefore important that you have knowledge of firefighting and evacuation and can provide first aid in the event of an accident.

This e-learning contains all the information you need as an ERO to make a proper assessment of the situation in the event of an incident, to safely extinguish a small, starting fire, how to bring your colleagues and others to a safe environment quickly if the fire is too big to fight and how to provide first aid in the event of an accident.

The firefighting and evacuation material focuses on making a proper risk assessment using the smoke and fire indicators, small, staring fires that might occur in most companies and the general evacuation procedure. The first aid section focuses on the types of injuries that occur in most companies.

The firefighting and evacuation material has been updated in response to new insights into the spreading of smoke from a study by the NIPV. The results of this research have been translated into this e-learning.

Smoke and the speed with which it can develop and spread makes the job of the ERO a lot more difficult than has long been assumed. This has led to an adjustment of the action perspective of the ERO. The ERO must be well prepared and be able to act adequately, safely, and quickly in the event of a fire. He/she must be aware of the effects of the spreading of smoke on escape possibilities and chances of survival and how the spreading of smoke can be limited. The ERO must be able to make quick decisions in a simple manner about what to do in any situation.

A new paragraph on inhalation injuries has been included in the first aid material. The dangers of smoke, hot air, steam, and often invisible toxic gases make this injury deserve more attention and is therefore now included in the e-learning.

In addition, the first aid section is up to date in accordance with the Dutch First Aid Guidelines 2021. This updated curriculum provides insights into the causes and consequences of smoke propagation 2023, as well as the measures that can be taken to reduce this risk.
